Taiwan 3G market to see large growth in 2008, says TWM

The demand for 3G mobile communication services in Taiwan will grow a great deal in 2008 and as a result, 70-80% of mobile communication services and handsets available in the market in 2009 will be 3G-based, according to CBO Cliff Lai for Taiwan Mobile (TWM).

TWM is optimistic about the business outlook for 3G in Taiwan and will therefore beef up its operation in 2008, Lai pointed out. 3G handsets may account for half of TWM's handset procurement volume in 2008, and subsidized prices of 3G handsets may drop to below NT$5,000 (US$154) in the second half of that year, Lai indicated.

TWM had about 1.08 million 3G subscribers as of the end of September 2007, with less than 50% of them using 3G handsets, Lai said.
